Now that we have started AT&T Byron Nelson Classic, that means it’s time to play some Showdown contests. In case you are new to the format, typical Showdown GPPs on DraftKings offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments, and sometimes even up to $100,000 for the final round. They also provide weekend-long contests that offer $15,000 to first place on average. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 2 of the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Previous Round Recap
Morning Wave
A new venue on the PGA Tour always brings tons of takes, but one that remained consistent this week was playing on the easier side. Given its wide-open fairways and favorable Par 5’s, TPC Craig Ranch didn’t pose that much of a threat to the players Thursday. The average score on the day was just shy of 68, by far the lowest score to par we’ve had I’m quite some time.
Rafa Cabrera Bello got things started right away, birding his first four holes and ending the day with an eight-under 64. Country mate Sergio Garcia rode a hole-out eagle to a bogey-free seven-under 65, as two of the best scores from this wave. Aaron Wise continued his hot form as well, shooting an eight-under 64, but no one would best J.J. Spaun, who shot a morning wave low of 63. Only Jordan Spieth would tie him on the day.
Afternoon Wave
Spieth, part of this afternoon wave, looked in complete control of his game from the first tee shot. Having come down with COVID a few weeks ago, he was a bit of a question mark coming into the week. There should be no further questions, as he gained strokes in every facet of the game Round 1. Spieth was one of only two golfers from this wave to shoot eight-under or better, with the other being Joseph Bramlett, who had the ball-striking working again and even had the hot putter alongside.
Round 2 Cut Prediction
The average score was just shy of four-under, which means the cut could land somewhere in the seven- or eight-under range. The wind could pick up a little bit in the late afternoon, and that might help hold the cut at seven-under, rather than trend to eight-under.

The Byron Nelson PGA DFS Picks
Anyone that looks at Windfinder will see that the 20 mph gusts and constant 15 mph winds will set in around 11 a.m. EST. It will remain that way until later in the day before dying off again. Those teeing off at 1 p.m. EST will have it their entire round, while those teeing off later may get a bit of a break toward the back end of their rounds. However, the early morning folks will have it best.
PGA DFS Picks for Round 2 of The Byron Nelson
- Jordan Spieth ($10,300) You couldn’t pay me to not play Spieth right now. He has fully returned and may get back to being one of the best in the world if this tee to green keeps up. Watch out for him on any golf course anywhere.
- Marc Leishman ($8,700) This one is an odd selection, but Leishman seems to really enjoy playing on these easy tracks in Texas. He is also the only golfer I’m rostering from the afternoon wave, as clearly greens were much more receptive in the morning. But if we want to hedge just in case the afternoon gets a boost somehow, he’s who I’m rostering.
- Rickie Fowler ($7,400) Maybe the special exemption into next week’s PGA Championship is exactly what Rickie needed. The Rickie of old was back, at least for one round, saving a crucial par put from 20 feet on 17 to keep his bogey-free round intact. The irons were a little week in Round 1, but he was rather good off the tee, so at $7,400 I’m OK rostering him even with the less-than-stellar approach play.
Sneaky Pick for the Round 2 Showdown
- Dylan MeyerUsing Dylan in the min-priced spot yesterday almost allowed me to take down the $15 late-round contest before settling in 25th. He was able to gain strokes in all facets of his game and now just needs another solid round tomorrow to get through to the weekend as a Monday qualifier. He had said in his interview after qualifying that he felt really good about his game, contrary to how he felt a month or so back when he missed the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour. Let’s hope the form stays for another round.
DraftKings and FanDuel Fill-Ins for the Byron Nelson
- Wyndham Clark ($7,500)
- Jon Rahm ($10,100)
- Sergio Garcia ($8,600)
